Visiting Assistant Professor in Global and Community Health, Department of International Development, Community, and Environment at Clark University

The department of International Development, Community, and Environment at Clark University seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor in Global and Community Health to start in January 2016.  This is a three-semester position with potential renewal pending satisfactory teaching evaluations.  The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach 5.0 courses a year in Clark’s new undergraduate minor in Public Health, and in a new program in Global and Community Health that we anticipate approval of this spring.  The ideal candidate would be a recent Ph.D. trained in public health, social science, or health sciences who could teach some of the following courses: What is Public Health?; Global Health and Social Change; Epidemiology; Psychosocial Determinants of Health; Biostatistics; and Comparative Health Systems.  We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate their ability to complement and extend departmental strengths in one or more of the four IDCE Programs: International Development and Social Change; Environmental Science and Policy; Community Development and Planning; and Geographic Information Science for Development and Environment, particularly those who specialize in environmental health and/or who have international research experience.  In addition to teaching, we anticipate that the successful candidate will help design a new MS degree in Global Public Health. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work with Clark’s Liberal Education and Effective Practice (LEEP) Center and the Center for Public Health Practice to expand research and internship opportunities for undergraduates and graduate students.
Clark University is committed to sustaining a diverse and inclusive community that cultivates ethical and well-informed citizens. We especially welcome candidates who can contribute to this mission through research, teaching, and service.  We are an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity university and we strongly encourage women and members of minority groups to apply.
Candidates should send a CV, a cover letter detailing their professional, research and teaching interests, together with contact information for three references, to Professor Ellen Foley, search committee chair, at efoley@clarku.edu. Review of applications will begin on Nov. 1, 2015, and continue until the position is filled.
