Tenure Track Applicants with a Ph.D. in social or behavioral science are invited to apply for an approved tenure track position starting fall 2014 at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Aging and Health or Mental Health, to be jointly appointed in the Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology (IOG) and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). Scholars whose area is minority aging are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates for the Assistant Professor position should have a Ph.D. and a record indicative of outstanding research achievement. Persons at the Associate professor level should have a record of external funding and a coherent research program. The position is 50% in the IOG and 50% in an appropriate department in CLAS. The candidate is expected to develop and grow an independent funded program of scholarship and demonstrate commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching and graduate student mentoring.
The Institute of Gerontology, created in 1965, is a leader in basic and applied research and community engagement (www.iog.wayne.edu) with a long history of collaboration with CLAS (www.clas.wayne.edu). Institute faculty pursue a range of societal and aging and human development issues, conducting basic, translational, and practice work with a strong tradition of collaborative and multidisciplinary projects across the campus, nation, and globe. For the past 17 years we have housed the Healthier Black Elders Center, a key component of the Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research an NIA P30 program shared by the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.
