The School of Archaeology and Anthropology (SAA) invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Anthropology (permanent, fulltime Level B). We seek a medical or medical-environmental anthropologist working at the intersection of health and the environment broadly defined. The geographical area of specialization is open. We are particularly interested in applicants whose area of focus and teaching interests can address areas we wish to strategically develop such as global health, bioscience, biotechnology and medicine, and the economic and environmental dimensions of disease and illness; however, other fields will be considered. Candidates should already hold a PhD in anthropology or closely related discipline with a demonstrated track record of research excellence. We especially welcome those who engage in ethnographically-grounded and theoretically-rigorous research with an active, on-going field research agenda; the ability to attract external funding; willingness to supervise PhD students; interest in teaching on-line courses; and who can offer undergraduate courses (including a first year course) that will attract students and enrich the already existing course curriculum.

We expect the successful candidate to develop undergraduate and graduate courses in medical and/or environmental anthropology (including the applicant’s area of specialization) that will complement and expand existing SAA teaching and research strengths in development studies, gender, heritage and museum studies, health and medicine, Indigenous studies, migration, and state and citizenship.

SAA is an interdisciplinary school offering an undergraduate major in Anthropology, as well as in Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, and Development Studies. For undergraduates, an additional offering is the Honours program with a thesis requirement. SAA also offers Masters Degrees in Anthropology; Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development; Archaeological Science; Biological Anthropology; and Culture, Health, and Medicine. Faculty members are expected to supervise PhD students and serve on advisory committees. The successful candidate will also be asked to serve on School, College, and University-level committees as appropriate and necessary.
