Rutgers University is positioned at one end of a transnational migration corridor that extends from Oaxaca, a state in southern Mexico, to New Bruns- wick, NJ, a city with a diverse population including a rapidly growing number of migrants from south- ern Mexico. This program represents one part of a larger, multidisciplinary and multi-institutional col- laboration to develop and expand relationships with the Mexican community both in New Jersey and Mexico. The program involves three main educational components: A course on the an- thropology of health in Mexico; a course in Span- ish, with an emphasis on medical vocabulary and dialogues; service learning activities in communi- ty and public health programs in Oaxaca.
