Affiliate Services Internship, Mental Health America
Individuals who seek experience in identifying critical issues and solutions to the challenges of dwindling funding and increasing needs in the mental health field faced by national and local advocates should apply. The Mental Health America Affiliate Services Department provides our 320 state and local affiliates nationwide with training and technical assistance on organizational capacity issues, helping affiliates work effectively in providing mental health education, advocacy and services in their local communities. Any undergraduate or graduate student interested in gaining experience in designing technical assistance programming in Non-profit Management issues should also apply. Federal Affairs Internship, Mental Health America
The incumbent in this position will work on federal policy issues and legislation, and provide research and other support to the federal policy team and grass-roots advocates. Our team works on a wide range of issues, including expanding access to treatment, children's mental health, mental health parity, and Medicaid financing of mental health services. Healthcare Reform Internship, Mental Health America
Mental Health America, the country’s leading nonprofit dedicated to helping all people live mentally healthier lives, seeks one to two motivated graduate students for summer and fall internships within the Healthcare Reform Department. The internship offers the right candidates an outstanding opportunity to work in a fast paced environment that positively impacts the lives of individuals with mental health conditions.
As states continue to serve as the center of health policy innovation, the Healthcare Reform Department supports local and state advocates in identifying and responding to health policy trends. Through powerful and effective advocacy, Mental Health America and its affiliates partner with policy makers to achieve significant change in the health care system and to ensure the rights of those with mental health conditions. Top issues include Medicaid, health insurance reform, peer support services, prevention and early intervention, and evidence-based healthcare.
Internship duties and responsibilities: The internship provides research opportunities and practical, hands-on experience to students pursuing a greater understanding of state health policy. Interns will be responsible for tracking state legislation, conducting policy research for state strategy meetings, the development of policy education materials, and working with staff to provide technical assistance to state and local advocates. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours/week.
Applicant Criteria: Candidates should be enthusiastic, mature, and have knowledge of health policy. Excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work within a team and independently are very important. Research and computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet research tools are required.

Media Relations Internship, Mental Health America
Mental Health America is seeking journalism/communications students for an internship in its busy Media Relations department. Intern responsibilities will include media tracking, various writing projects and assisting with the 2007 Media Awards competition (information at http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/go/media-awards). Other tasks assigned as necessary. Successful candidates will have excellent writing, editing and organizational skills and an interest in advocacy, current events and working with the media. General knowledge of mental health issues a plus. Intern is expected to work 2-3 days per week – hours are flexible (10 hours/week minimum). This internship is unpaid. Fundraising Internship, Mental Health America
The Mental Health America Resource Development department offers interns the opportunity to support corporate, foundation and individual fundraising efforts. Development interns research potential targets, track foundation activity and outreach efforts, draft communications (including letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and personal correspondence), and work across all MHA programs and departments to seek funding to support our vital mission. Marketing Internship, Mental Health America
The Mental Health America Resource Development department offers interns the opportunity to support various marketing efforts through prospect identification for cause-related marketing campaigns. Also responsible for maintaining contact database, assist with planning special events, tracking department functions and outreach efforts, brainstorm creative partnership strategies, and work across all MHA programs and departments to seek funding to support our vital mission. Intern, National Association of Mental Health Planning and Advisory Councils (NAMHPAC)
The intern will assist with project coordination activities. Tasks may include helping to research material for presentations and technical assistance activities, and managing logistics associated with meetings and travel. Research supporting brochure development on topics related to mental health may also be part of the internship. The intern may also assist with website development and maintenance and database management. The intern is required to work at least 3 days a week. Health Council
The mission of the Global Health Council is to promote better health around the world by assisting all who work for improvement and equity in global health to secure the information and resources they need to work effectively. The Global Health Council internship program hopes to offer students enjoyable, and unique learning experiences in advocating and supporting programs that improve health around the world. We understand that some schools have strict internship requirements for earning credits. The Council's internship program is fairly flexible, therefore, we will be able to work with the students to meet their internship requirements. The primary requirement is that you have a commitment to make a measurable difference with your time and energy in the area of global health. There is always "grunt" work to do in any endeavor, but we want the vast majority of your time to be spent achieving goals agreed to prior to the beginning of your internship.
Internship Opportunities: The Global Health Council has three positions that are available in our DC office and four positions in our White River Junction, Vermont office. These internships run on a rotating schedule during the Fall semester, the Spring semester and over the summer.

Minimum Requirement: An investment of at least 30 hours per week is required for the internship program. This is a 12-week internship program.
Stipend: The Global Health Council offers its interns a stipend of $200/month. Depending upon when the internship commences, pro-rated pay may occur. The Council does not provide any other benefits to its interns (i.e. sick time, vacation time, health insurance, etc.)
