The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) and the David Druker Center for Health Systems Innovation (Innovation Center) is reinventing health systems to be community health partners, and is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and effective Medical Ethnographer to take a leading role defining, developing and implementing the Innovation Center’s community-based programs. The Medical Ethnographer will work closely with the team to deploy our linkAges, Personalized Health Care, and other new Innovation Center initiatives.

The David Druker Center for Health System Innovation (Innovation Center) works on disruptive-innovation solutions to transform healthcare delivery. It hosts a professional staff that helps discover, identify, harvest, nurture, incubate, and deploy game-changing innovations in health and health care delivery.
The David Druker Center for Health Systems Innovation conducts its work following the principles of human centered design, and ethnography is fundamental to the definition of the problems we are to solve and the development and testing of solutions.

The Medical Ethnographer is responsible for studying environments and social interactions where individuals (patients) live their daily lives and which impact their health, wellbeing and health behaviors. The purpose is to gain insight into the context and behaviors that affect health and to design and implement health-partnership interventions that maintain and enhance individual and community health.

Requirements:
Master’s degree required.
• At least 6 years relevant experience, with a strong track record of results driving R&D or innovation-oriented programs.
• Demonstrated responsibility for designing and conducting ethnographic studies with health and welfare impacts in healthcare or social sectors.
• Must be a competent photographer and audio recorder, for the purpose of documenting ethnographic artifacts.
• PhD strongly preferred.
• 10 years of relevant experience with a strong track record of results driving R&D or innovation-oriented programs also preferred.
