Job: Medical Anthropology/Science and Technology Studies/Bioethics, Department of Anthropology at University of Oklahoma

The Department of Anthropology at University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman seeks a full-time academic, tenure-track professor at the rank of Assistant Professor, with research interests in medical anthropology, science and technology studies, and/or bioethics beginning Fall 2017. The primary appointment would be within the Department of Anthropology, with potential joint appointments in other departments and/or centers. The teaching load is two courses per semester. We are particularly interested in applicants whose work focuses on critical engagements with biological research and/or medicine in indigenous communities of the Americas, either currently or as a logical next step in a program of research.

Successful applicants will have a PhD, demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, and strong record of research with high potential for extramural funding. Review of applications will begin November 7 and continue until the positions are filled.

OU is home to an NIH Center of Excellence in Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) Research, the Center on American Indian and Alaska Native Genomic Research, and OU’s Laboratories of Molecular Anthropology and Microbiome Research (LMAMR), which lead in studies in anthropological and genomic sciences, much of it in partnership with indigenous peoples of the Americas.
