Medical Anthropologist, Department of Anthropology, Wayne State University

The Department of Anthropology at Wayne State University announces a full-time, tenured/tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Medical Anthropology (specialization open) beginning fall semester, 2016. We seek candidates who can build on existing departmental and university-wide strengths by taking innovative approaches to the anthropological study of health and illness. The successful candidate should have a theoretically motivated research program, a record of publication, a history of and potential for securing external funding, and demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.
The selected candidate will be expected to take responsibility for introductory, upper-level, and graduate courses in Medical Anthropology, required core courses in the four-field curriculum, and to recruit and advise Medical Anthropology undergraduate and graduate students. Expertise in urban and in community based participatory research desired. The WSU Medical Anthropology Program, an internationally recognized graduate specialization with an extensive history of external research funding, is the former home to the Medical Anthropology Quarterly.
