Description and Duties: Rutgers University–New Brunswick seeks a candidate for the Henry Rutgers Term Professorship in Hispanic and Latin@ Studies at the advanced assistant or associate professor levels. The Henry Rutgers Term Professorships are new positions created to enhance areas of growing strength at the University. Rutgers is located in one of the most diverse states of the nation, and in New Brunswick the Latin@ community has experienced and will continue to experience a significant growth. To complement our strengths in Latin@ and Diasporic Caribbean Studies, we are looking for candidates with a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary scholarship in Latin@ Studies. Areas of specialization may include (but are not restricted to): Mexican/American and Chicano Studies; transnationalism, migration, health, language and Latin@ identity; the study of literary, cultural, philosophical and/or artistic contributions; as well as history of Latin@s in the United States, including ethnographic, demographic or empirical study of current growth and changes in the Latino population in the country. We encourage applications from scholars who can link their work with any department or professional school at Rutgers (e.g., medicine, public health, law, education, social work, public policy, communication, journalism or business). The successful candidate will be housed in the academic unit(s) most relevant to her or his specialization. Joint appointments are possible. Part of the successful candidate’s teaching will preferably be offered through or cross-listed with the Latino Studies major housed in the Department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies. We are seeking a scholar with enthusiasm for teaching and an active research program who can potentially bring together diverse scholars at the university and the surrounding community to highlight and develop a key area of Latin@ Studies.

 

Qualifications: Ph.D. in any discipline with a scholarly focus in Latin@ Studies.

Rank: Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor with tenure.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Starting Date: Between September 2015, or January, 2016.
