The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University invites applications for a probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Medical Anthropology effective July 1, 2015.
The successful candidate will join the faculty of the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health and have the exciting opportunity to shape the new signature Master of Public Health (MPH) Program, in which they will teach. The MPH Program is designed to attract students who are aspiring leaders and change agents aiming to shape the future of public health.
This MPH Program is an applicant for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health. The first cohort began their 12 month program in September 2013 in a new, state-of-the-art building, The Western Centre for Public Health and Family Medicine. A unique offering in its use of case based learning, this interdisciplinary program will offer leaders the knowledge and skills to transform public health and healthcare in Canada and globally. Hosted by Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, the program is supported by interdisciplinary links to the Faculties of Health Sciences, Law, Science, Social Science and Brescia University College.
We welcome applicants with a PhD from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, including but not limited to: Anthropology, First Nations studies, Public Health, or other health related social sciences. Applicants must demonstrate an exemplary research record and enthusiasm for teaching at the graduate level using case-based methods. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Aboriginal health, social and cultural determinants of health, and a proven record in qualitative methods, community-based and interdisciplinary research, and research collaborations with health sector partners.
The position entails teaching two graduate courses (Social and Cultural Determinants of Health, and Aboriginal Health) using a case-based approach, graduate student supervision and curriculum development. The successful candidate is expected to develop and lead an interdisciplinary research program in their focus area. As the graduate public health programs at Western grow, the candidate will be part of the team developing new research and educational programs. While the position is based in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, opportunities exist for cross-appointments with other Departments across Western.
