Assistant, Associate or Professor in Applied Cultural Anthropology, Texas State University

The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University invites applications for an appointment in applied cultural anthropology, rank open, to begin Fall 2016. The successful applicant will join four cultural anthropology faculty members who work in a variety of areas.

At time of application candidates are required to 1) have a PhD in Anthropology with a focus in cultural anthropology, and 2) a research agenda in applied cultural anthropology. To be eligible for hire at the assistant, associate, or professor rank, the candidate must meet the departmental and university requirements for that rank.

Preference will be given to applicants with 1) publications in applied cultural anthropology, which includes peer reviewed publications, project reports, or program evaluations, 2) applied research in relation to areas of overlap between cultural and biological anthropology such as studies of human health and disease, health care systems, and/or medical knowledge and practices, 3) experience teaching or mentoring students in applied cultural anthropology, and 4) evidence of external funding or a plan to obtain future external funding. An applicant’s qualifications will be evaluated proportionate with time since completion of the PhD.

Responsibilities of the position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in research design, methods, applied cultural anthropology, and area of specialization; developing external funding to support an active applied research program; and contributing to the department and university through service activities. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of a proposed PhD program in Applied Anthropology.

We especially encourage applications experienced practitioners in applied cultural anthropology. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on departmental and university standards. Rank and salary will be negotiated and commensurate with qualifications.
