Degrees offered:

  • We offer an M.A. in Applied and Urban Anthropology. We expect theses to deal with problems of urban life and/or applied aspects, among other topics. We are quite flexible in regard to research topics; although most students do fieldwork in Greater New York, we accept theses written on research done in rainforest Mexico and South America, for example.

Program information:

  • Our program's focus is wide ranging, reflecting our faculty's gamut of interests. We have a high faculty-student ratio - our graduate student body varies from 15-20 including those who are currently writing their theses, so there is room for close, caring relations between students and faculty. Student must complete 30 credits of required and elective work; up to 12 credits may be taken in approved courses in other departments. Students receive credit for independent, directed, research.
