Program information:
- The Anthropology program at the University of Alberta emphasises the four-field approach, and recent hirings have confirmed the department's long-term interests in medical anthropology. Several faculty support research in health, healing, cultural critiques of science and analysis of medicine(s). In the past decade, graduate degrees have been awarded for a variety of biological and medical anthropological topics. Students interested in pursuing health-oriented research of an interdisciplinary nature are also accomodated through collaborative links with programs in, for example, the Departments of Human Ecology, Religious Studies, Native Studies and Public Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Nursing. Other resources available to students include the Institute for Qualitative Research, the Canadian Circumpolar Institute, and the Centre for the Cross-Cultural Study of Health and Healing.
