AAA’s events not to miss

AAA’s Inaugural Plenary Session: Don’t miss the AAA’s first annual Plenary Opening Session, “Why We Can’t All Just Get Along: Race, Language, and Meaning in the 2012 Presidential Election” featuring panelists Johnetta Cole (National Museum of African Art), H. Samy Alim (Stanford U), and Rogers Smith (U of Pennsylvania) on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 6:00pm, Continental 4, 5 & 6 Ballroom.

Opening Reception: Kick off the annual meeting with evening hours at the Exhibition Hall, Thursday, Nov. 15, 5:00pm-7:00pm in the Grand Ballroom. Light snacks and a cash bar will be available.

AAA Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony: Both events will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, with the business meeting starting at 6:15pm and the awards ceremony at 7:45pm in Continental 5.

NAPA/AAA Careers Expo: Students, new professionals and faculty mentoring young anthropologists can meet with practicing anthropologists to explore career options on Friday, November 16, 11:00am-4:00pm in the Grand Ballroom.

Career Workshop: Applied anthropologists Carol Ellick and Joe Watkins, authors of The Anthropology Graduate’s Guide: From Student to a Career, will present a set of practical steps to assist in the transition from student to professional. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10:00am in Continental 1. It is free but registration is required and space is limited.

Student Saturday: Students interested in attending the conference on Saturday only can register for $50.

San Francisco Salons: AAA members are welcome to attend salons led by a team of extraordinary scholars, each focusing on a classic anthropological text. There is no cost to attend; however, pre-registration is required and space is limited.
