Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology - The University of Alabama
- The Department of Anthropology of The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in cultural anthropology beginning Fall 2010. Ph.D. in Anthropology is expected to be in hand at the time of the appointment. We seek a cultural anthropologist with research interests in medical anthropology with a biocultural focus. Topical and geographic specializations are open, although the applicant should complement existing specialties in the department, and be well-versed in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The successful applicant will have research skills and interests that contribute directly to our undergraduate and graduate programs, with particular reference to our Ph.D. program and its focus on biocultural medical anthropology. The proposed faculty member will have teacing responsibilities that include specific core undergraduate and graduate level classes and courses of their own development.

Assistant Professor, Medical Anthropology - University of Iowa
- The University of Iowa, Department of Anthropology, invites applications for a tenure-track position in medical anthropology, at the rank of assistant professor, beginning August 2010. Requirements include Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2010, an established publication record, a strong research program, a record of external grant support and previous teaching experience. Postdoctoral or equivalent experience is preferred though not required. Tenure Track Faculty Position in Population and Health - Northwestern University
- Northwestern University is seeking an experienced scholar in sociology, demography, population health, social epidemiology, economics, or related fields, whose research program includes a focus on biology or health. The scholar will join the multidisciplinary faculty of Cells to Society (C2S): The Center on Social Disparities and Health at the Institute for Policy Research. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding records of scholarly publication, teaching, and externally-funded research. The successful candidate will help to lead C2S in its goal to become an NICHD-funded population research center.

The Karl Mannheim Chair for Cultural Studies invites applications for a Lecturer in Cultural Studies (Sociology)

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville - The Anthropology Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology with a program of research in medical anthropology.
- An area specialization in African-American culture, African cultures and/or Latin American and Caribbean cultures is preferred, although other area specializations will be considered. The Department of Anthropology at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty appointment in linguistic anthropology at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August 2009, PhD in Anthropology required.
- We seek candidates with active projects relating to discourse analysis, language renewal, preservation, or maintenance that will complement our developing emphasis in applied anthropology. Candidates should have strengths both in descriptive linguistics and in sociocultural anthropology. Candidates will be expected to teach a basic course in descriptive linguistics as well as a course in the ethnography of their area of regional interest, language and culture, applied linguistic anthropology, and related cultural or linguistic topics in the department’s new state-of-the-art Discourse Analysis Lab.
- Preference will be given to candidates whose geographic focus is on the Pacific Rim, specifically Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Southwestern U. S., California, Mexico, or ethnic populations from these areas in Southern California. A strong record of research, publications, collaborations within and outside the academic community, and acquisition of external funding should be evident. Candidates should show evidence of success in working with a diverse student population and in relating to community groups. We are especially interested in candidates who can involve our students in research and who are prepared to participate in joint projects in the department or university. - The ideal candidate will be able to teach an introductory course in cultural anthropology and be able to contribute one or two courses related to health, illness, and healing. Other courses and area of geographical interest are open. Applicants should have or be near completion of their Ph.D. and should have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Teaching responsibilities are divided between introductory level and upper-level courses and includes participation in the college’s general education program.
