Academic Director

Assistant Professor - Health and Aging

  • University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2011. We seek a candidate in the research area of health and aging who can also contribute to our curriculum in research methods and statistics. Candidates are expected to have an active program of research in health and aging, including cutting-edge work, such as research that could benefit from UMBC's available fMRI equipment, Center for Aging Studies or Hilltop Institute. Our department has 16 full time faculty members with over 580 majors in three undergraduate majors (sociology, anthropology, and health administration and policy) and 85 graduate students in the MA program in Applied Sociology, as well as a departmental Center for Aging Studies. Faculty members actively participate in and are affiliated with three interdisciplinary doctoral programs in Gerontology, Public Policy, and Language, Literacy & Culture.

Director, Community Engaged Research

  • Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN seeks a Director for the Office of Community- Engaged Research within the Center for Translational Science Activities. The Office of Community-Engaged Research supports and coordinates all research-related community activities at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The Director is responsible for the general oversight and direction of the office, and plays a leadership role in assisting investigators to conceptualize, develop and conduct community-engaged research. The Director develops tactical plans for outreach to involve communities in the research process and evaluates plan implementation procedures and outcomes. The Director leads and manages the development of research initiatives with research teams, with other medical centers, and with community organizations. The Director serves as lecturer and mentor for training programs in community-engaged research, cultural competence and health disparities research to strengthen the research capabilities of clinical investigators, support staff, fellows and medical students. The Director directly supervises other staff that performs outreach activities and other staff assigned to the office.
  • The Director should possess a doctoral degree in public health, health services research, clinical epidemiology, medical sociology, cultural anthropology or other health related sciences field. Faculty Position - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System

  • The Division of Health Services Research (DHSR) is an integral component of the new Psychiatric Research Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. For nearly two decades, DHSR has been recognized as one of the largest, most comprehensive, and innovative health services research centers in the nation. Since 1990, our faculty members have been awarded extramural grants worth over $80 million dollars in direct costs. Currently, DHSR faculty members are principal investigators on 18 federally funded projects including 6 NIH grants and 8 from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). DHSR is also the home to three nationally recognized VA-funded mental health services research centers.
    DHSR’s mission is to improve the lives of underserved individuals with mental health and substance use disorders by conducting scientifically rigorous research in close partnership with clinical and community stakeholders. We seek to: 1) identify the determinants of poor outcomes, 2) develop and test the acceptability and effectiveness of new interventions, and 3) develop and test implementation strategies designed to promote the adoption of evidence-based practices.

Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology - The University of Alabama

Assistant Professor, Medical Anthropology - University of Iowa

Tenure Track Faculty Position in Population and Health - Northwestern University

The Karl Mannheim Chair for Cultural Studies invites applications for a Lecturer in Cultural Studies (Sociology)

The Department of Anthropology at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty appointment in linguistic anthropology at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August 2009, PhD in Anthropology required.
  • We seek candidates with active projects relating to discourse analysis, language renewal, preservation, or maintenance that will complement our developing emphasis in applied anthropology. Candidates should have strengths both in descriptive linguistics and in sociocultural anthropology. Candidates will be expected to teach a basic course in descriptive linguistics as well as a course in the ethnography of their area of regional interest, language and culture, applied linguistic anthropology, and related cultural or linguistic topics in the department’s new state-of-the-art Discourse Analysis Lab.
  • Preference will be given to candidates whose geographic focus is on the Pacific Rim, specifically Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Southwestern U. S., California, Mexico, or ethnic populations from these areas in Southern California. A strong record of research, publications, collaborations within and outside the academic community, and acquisition of external funding should be evident.
